SABN History
Alpaca breeders manning
their booths at one of Canada's largest agriculture shows, the Canadian Western
Agribition, in Regina, Saskatchewan identified a real need to have a show in
this venue. Over supper one night at Agribition and a subsequent couple of
conference calls, this group of breeders met to propose a name, goals, structure
and budget ideas . The first general meeting was called on February 27,
1999 in Saskatoon, SK. About 36 breeders had been identified in
Saskatchewan at that time and it was very encouraging to see about 28 of them
represented at this meeting.
With a great amount of
enthusiasm, the Saskatchewan Alpaca Breeders Network was formed. The AGM
(Annual General Meeting), held in February or March, is a great venue for
networking opportunities and includes informative presentations from
organizations involved in various aspects of the alpaca industry. The
Executive meet
whenever deemed necessary with a goal of 2 face to face meetings
and several conference calls per year. Committees
are formed to promote the networking advantage. If
you would like to contribute you are welcome to help any of the committees:
Membership, Promotion, Education, and Events.

SABN recognizes the burden of having too
many associations to belong to. We strive to be simply a network of breeders
working to meet the needs of alpaca breeders in Saskatchewan. We are very open
to suggestions, comments, and ideas. Please don't hesitate to call one of our
dedicated Directors if
you have an idea!
If you are just thinking
about alpacas at the moment, our suggestion is to SHOP SASKATCHEWAN! You
can find alpacas to fit your highest expectations or your tightest budget right
here! Find out for yourself the many benefits of buying from a small
breeder. Quality, individual care, honest, cooperative attitudes (many
breeders are willing to work together to give buyers the best package deals
possible!), Saskatchewan hospitality and support!
